It really is the rage these days.. one can find this tasty appetizer on nearly every newer restaurant.  You can walk into many grocery stores and not find one variety, but many to suit your particular tastes.  A once 5 million dollar industry has burst in the last 5 years into 530 million dollar industry due the immense popularity of this healthy delicious food!

Hummus is creamy smooth concoction of five ingredients including chick peas, tahini, garlic, lemon, salt and we like it with a few splashes of tabasco sauce as an optional side kick. Hummus is a breeze to make, especially if you have a high speed food processor.

Why make hummus when you can easily buy it at the grocery? Because you can whip it in a matter of minutes and your version will be better than the grocery store variety!  

Hummus is Healthy!  Chick peas take center stage here.  Also known as garbanzo beans, they are a legume that is a source of complex carbohydrates, rich in protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals and low in fat. Great for weight management too as this tends to make you feel fuller!

Tahini is a paste made from sesame seeds and is also rich in minerals and Omega-3 fatty acids and amino acids.  We don’t use much in this recipe to keep the overall fat down, but a little can go a long way.  All in all, make this hummus to your taste.  Add more lemon for more of lemony taste, more garlic for more garlic or kick it up with more tabasco!

Just Good Feeling Hummus

Description

This popular appetizer will get you hooked onto hummus! Easy and fast, this recipe can be put together in a matter of minutes. Serve it with raw veggies and whole grain pita chips. You will need a high speed food processor for best results.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can ( 15oz) organic Chick Peas/Garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed thoroughly .
  • 1 can (15 oz) navy white bean, drained and rinsed thoroughly.
  • Juice of 1 large lemon
  • 2 or 3 medium cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp celtic salt or salt to taste
  • 1/3 cup tahini paste
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • few splashes of tabasco (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add the rinsed beans, chopped garlic, and the rest of the ingredients to a high speed food processor.
  2. Process until completely smooth and creamy, about 5 minutes running.
  3. Add tabasco to taste if desired.
  4. Spoon hummus into dish to serve with veggies or pita chips.
  5. Keeps in sealed container for 5 days.

Notes

  • Pro tip~ make sure you blend the hummus for a while, about 5 minutes to really get a nice smooth texture.
  • If you want more or less heat, add more or less tobasco. If you want more or less spice, add less garlic.
  • Make have to add few drops of water ( or olive oil) to get the consistency you want.
